Replacing CD with DVD

Is it worth replacing the in dash CD player with a DVD player instead?Is it a simple replacement with coding?
This would help if or when I buy the Dension AVR unit to play DVD's on my iDrive.
Note that I have the BMW iPod retrofit in place of the CDC.
