I went to the dealership for my service today and to clear up a few issues: 1)Headlights remain facing to the left 2)Drive malfunction light 3) Rough idle.

The estimate from the dealership, for the work, came to about $6000, a little steep. They stated I needed a DSC(speed sensor), power steering pump and vacuum pump.

I'd like to know if there is a repair manual(Chilton's or any other brand) for an 04' 545i, I trully believe that I can take of a few of these items with patience and pictures.

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

I'd be curious as to which symptoms lined up with which repairs/replacement and the costs of each. But that is astonishing.

I think you need to check back with them on this...seriously. There is a major miscommunication somewhere.

Holy hell that's alot of $$$$ for those repairs. Id try one of the other dealers in the area, or better yet find a reputable indy shop.

Thanks for the input, I do know about Swope and that's why I went to Cinncinati. I am going to check around on prices, these are very crazy prices.

The problems arose with a Drive Malfunction Warning light, which led to the headlights not returning to center while at speed.

The other problem was a complaint of "rough idle", which led to the vacuum pump diagnosis.

I concur, go to a reputable indy. That's way too much money for those repairs.

Note, Ballpark Prices; as I didn't have all the relevant details of your car but, you can go here to get specific parts/prices for your car.

Power Steering Pump only:
w/o active steering & dynamic drive: $668.37
w/o active steering but w/ dynamic drive: $935.73
w/active steering but w/o dynamic drive: $1,178.22
w/active steering & dynamic drive: $1,497.15

Vacuum Pump With Tubes: $413.98

DSC (speed sensor): $80.16x2

Buy the parts & get an someone reputable to install them.....if you do, note that I didn't include prices for hoses, bolts, clips etc. but I would get all associated parts for a clean install.

Good luck.
