You're in the same boat as me; Easiest way is to get the retrofit wheel, part 32340309522 if you want the sport, or part # 32340309523 if you have the heated wheel and 32340396032 if you want the MSport. (no heated MSport wheel available for 04-05 cars.)

it is far easier to go the retrofit part # route, as that includes the wheel, the slip ring, the buttons on the sides, etc. everything ready to plug and play, except for the airbag. correct part # for the airbag is 32346776904.

You can not get the //M5 wheel on cars built before 9/05, at least not in a retrofit kit.
