Just bought myself a new chrome and leather bmw handbrake to change the boring all black one. I've searched through the site but cannot find anything on how to remove it. I've looked at the spare i'm suppose to replace but cannot find anything that indicates a "lock" of some short

Do you just pull it off ?

thanks

I am sorry I can't answer this for you, but I am curious as well. I have seen a few e-brake handles and gear shift levers that piqued my interest, but I wouldn't want to spend a day and half installing them. Maybe someone can contribute a DIY?

I've bought a matching gear knob as well and from what i can tell the gear knob is easy. You just pull it off. The handbrake i cannot figure out. Will post a pic later on.

On my 2004, I replaced the black with a wooden handle to match the rest of the interior trim. It has been three years but as I recall it simply pulls off, much like the gear shifter. Now keep in mind I am only talking about the handle portion, the leather/pleather bag covering the rest of the brake lever...

Here's my post when I changed my handbrake with some details: https://5series.net/forums/index.php...opic=68017&hl= .. I copied the part for the handbrake below.. good luck!
I also read that the e-brake handle just needed a good pull, however, the damn thing wouldn?t budge. I went back and did some searches and found this post with pics from November 2004 http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=4348&hl=. .There was actually a plastic zip tie around the base of the oem handle that needed to be cut off, but you need to remove the leather housing first to get to it.

Those are some great instructions Rino - glad you managed not to knock yourself out.

Just make sure you have an extra zip-tie and flat tool
(similar to a flat-head screwdriver, but plastic material).
Pop the top-inner portion of the boot using the tool,
and gently work the boot of the console.

Do not yank the leather boot. You'll risk ripping it off the frame.
