Default Programming/coding an E60 - how to get started?

I am getting bits a pieces of info on various s/w tools available on the E60s. Heard about INPA, NCS Expert, IBS etc. I would really like if someone can point me to where to start reading up on stuff - a DIY guide to coding/programming/registering E60, where to get cable from, where to download s/w etc. That would be wonderful. My first task would be to register a new battery.

any direction is greatly appreciated.
thanks and regards

search google with the string "bmwcoding.com" followed by whatever questions and i usually find what i need to know from there.

a week ago i didnt know anything about coding, since a couple days ago, i became very familiar with those programs, and have successfully coded things on my car and even did a ccc retrofit. read and do as much research, i did for days. i dont know everything, but using that program is a lot easier to understand now. ask questions first, because any wrong move, and you could really mess things up.

Great advice roskinc. I have started my reading - will take days before I get the cable and s/w, so hopefully will be aware of both good and what bad can happen (read couple of horror stories already on E90 owners doing their programming mis-adventures...). This will be a slow process, but yes, I am looking forward to it. I am a techie and have done a few small mechanical work on cars - so hopefully I can put the two to work to understand and then use the coding. For now, I am overwhelmed with so many s/w options and their capabilities - INPA, NCS Expert, Progman ....
