My Ride: 2004 545i - Bone stock... help!
Okay,
So I'm upgrading my car from SA606 to SA609 (Business Nav to Pro Nav).
I'm looking at the official BMW Nav retrofit installation instructions and one thing isn't very clear to me. It's obvious that I don't need to change the GPS aerial cable, but I'm not sure about the actual aerial.
Page 8 shows an installation and cabling diagram that points to the cable and says (for cars without SA606 only), but doesn't say anything for the actual aerial. And then the very next page goes into how to install the aerial itself but on the title of the page is says (cars without SA606 only).
Which leads me to believe my existing cable and aerial are plug n' play and I don't need to mess with them? I mean, that would make sense as a GPS aerial is a GPS aerial theoretically, but I'm unsure and I certainly don't want to be ripping my shark fin off if I can avoid it, it looks like a pain in the ass.
Anyone have any further info on this?
I could always just try it and if doesn't work, put in the new aerial but I'm avoiding having to go purchase this thing as it doesn't come with the second hand parts kit I'm getting, so I want to be prepared

DIRK, i had a look at this for you, and if you have business nav, then you have a gps receiver built into your original sharks fin...and this will be perfect for the new professional nav, it also uses the same (small) connector that plugs into your new ccc
your lucky it will be plug and play for you.

Absolutely brilliant news! And Dave, I felt bad for bombarding you with questions via PM so I took this one to the group
.
Thanks again for all your help and the parts, it's going to be one happy day when I get that sucker installed. Now I just hope I won't need a reprogram and I hope I can find a GCC maps DVD cheap

you are going to need a reprogram. More than likely CCC came from a car with different options so you'll have some errors on startup. I'd take advantage of the fact and replace your TCU with a bluetooth one while you're at it, so you only have to pay the reprogramming once.

It's late so I'm skipping google but uhm, I already have bluetooth... And yes, I've already factored in a trip to get programming.

an '04 with bluetooth...did you get it retrofit or were you one of the lucky ones that just needed the software update to get it?
. Works quite well, actually... Well, with every phone but my iPhone. It hates my iPhone.
Hiya everyone, been looking at a few satnav's on ebay(even one's which were advertised by Dr Dave!)and have a few question's,are they easy to fit or would a retrofit loom be required?I have a standard cd player with no nav at the moment,am I correct in saying that it will be easy to fit with just a minimal amount of programming as I went to a BMW specialist and they said that it required upto 30+ module's to be re-programmed to accept the High i-drive controller and the complete Satnav system,no one on ebay seem's to mention this or is this untrue?Dr Dave have you any more unit's for sale mate?
Regard's,
Sanj.
