Was wondering if any of the DIYers had experience with the tools that are advertised to suck the oil from the drain pan from the top side of the motor. I know they work on most models, but on a N54 e60, there is not a dip stick location to suck the oil from. Is it possible to use one of these through the main oil cap on the top of the engine? Any specific models recommended. Thanks!

NO - trying to use an oil extraction pump at the oil filler point will not work. The drain plug is so easily accessed, even if there were a dipstick I'd discourage its use. If you are skinny enough you'd probably not even need ramps to get under the car. Otherwise, drive it up on a couple of 2x8's to get some clearance and drain the oil properly.
BTW, I have used the pumps to suck the oil out of an in-board boat engine with one of these http://www.northerntool.com/shop/too..._390306_390306 . They work OK but you'll always leave heavier gunk in the pan unless it's a dry sump system HowStuffWorks "Why do some engines use a dry sump oil system?"
