Hi,

I decided to remove my inlet manifold again today to check everything was ok since removing the intake flaps last week. I had noticed last week that there was oil on the underside of the intake manifold but didnt think too much of it. There was oil again today, I had a look to try and find the source but I am stumped, there is oil in the inlet pipes after the intercooler and there was some oil lying in the throttle body. Does anyone have any thoughts on what this may be, with the engine runnning i cannot see any oil coming out anywhere. Also my exhaust emissions look ok with no blue smoke.

Recently i changed the crankcase breather filter, but the oil was there previous to this.

The oil level is ok, could the garage have put in too much oil in when they serviced it causing the oil to be forced out the breather in to the intake?

My car is a 2004 525D with 77K miles on the clock.

Thanks,

Bob.

excessive blow-by or bad seals in the turbo/ turbos

Add some dye to the oil and take a UV lamp and see where it is comming from.

Is excessive blow by from the breather system, perhaps there was too much oil in the engine. Next weekend I will take a look around the air pipe work to see where the oil comes in from.

Thanks,

Bob.

Where can you get a dye that can be added?

yeah...if to much oil was added to the crank case, it can spew out through the breather hose and into your intake tract; intake pipe, ic pipes, throttle body, etc, etc
