Due another oil change, going to be doing this myself, am based in the UK so oil for UK weather i guess. Last time i think i used castrol turbo diesel oil but cant remember what grade. Would be happy to get castrol again but not sure what grade i should be using and also if theres a difference in the castrol brands as they seem to have difference types of the same grade
Castrol site recommends Edge 5W-30 or Edge Turbo Diesel 5W-40

Castrol Edge 5W-30 is a LL-04 oil, so is Edge Turbo Diesel 0W-30.I f you want to save cash,use Q8 Formula Special 5W-30 or Total Quartz INEO MC3 5W-30.Both are LL-04 oils.For Total,see :-http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150340013200&ssPageNam e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
Beware oils that say they are LL-04. Cars with DPF's need oil that is highly specific and needs to be low SAPS or low ash.
The Total Quartz INEO MC3 5W-30 is OK.
Looking at the Q8 site (http://www.q8oils.co.uk/productlibrary.asp?OBJ_ID=26509) it is the Q8 Formula Special G Long Life 5W-30 that is low SAPS.
Another good quality oil is from Comma Syner-Z 5w-30.
Low SAPS is a must with these DPF's
Whatever you use ignore the I-drive and change it more often, especially if you do short journeys from cold.

The Comma oil is not on the list of BMW approved oils meeting spec. LL-04 (as of Nov.2009).
BMW approved LL-04 oil is also available from Havoline (Chevron),Shell and Valvoline.
