Ok so I've been waiting on this but I'm about to tackle it in the coming months. Is there any consensus on the zip kits? I know for peace of mind sending it off to be rebuilt is best but just curious about the zip kits.

There are videos of a master doing this on either a 6HP19 or 6HP24 on youtube - so you can see what is involved.

Installing DIY is doable absolutely, however, you always need to order the correct separator plates as well, because it will almost be certain that you will mess up the thin gasket between plates when you disassemble.

Whether I rebuild this one or buy one already rebuilt - what's the diff? Better the devil you know than the one you don't. I already had the valve body and solenoids redone, so I was half way there anyway. This way I know what the issues are and exactly what is being done, and which parts replaced (apart from bearings and clutches). I prefer it this way. done by people in whom I have confidence and trust.
