I'm stoked just picked up a 08 M5. Listened to the exhaust for the first day. Today I plug my iPod into the USB interface in the console. Sound is awesome but I have no clue what songs or artist is playing.

When I try to access anything in the menu it says no data available except in the music selection. When you select music I get a listing of 39 file locations and when you drill below that it shows a list of 4 letter codes that make no sense. Each one represents a song I can play.

What gives - does the iPod need some different format? Is my interface set up incorrectly?

This machine is awesome but I crave tunes

I have no clue. My iPod (2nd gen Nano) works fine in it.

First, do you have the correct cable? It plugs into both the USB and aux ports.
Do you get the sub menues under Aux, ie playlists, artists, songs, etc.
Under that should be a list of whatever... Selecting the playlist from that, I get the list of songs.

Also a note. On restart, I always get "Searching for data" or something like that. Simply pressing the volume button turns it on and goes to a "Now playing" list showing the one song. I then can go up to playlists and open the same or different one to get a full list.

You may not have your SW updated on your car - a dealer re-flash may be required.
Sometimes, I find the iPod misbehaves. Do a hard reset on your iPod and see if that fixes the problem.

Could be the cable. I simply used the Apple cable and plugged it into the USB socket. No aux port. Is that a BMW part?

Yes. US owners (with the 6FL option) should have been given the special cable when purchasing the car. You may have to buy it from a dealer.

My salesman stole the right cable from one of his showroom cars. I'm in business. Tune time travel.

You definitely need playlists. I have a loaded iPod and scrolling through all the tunes takes forever.

Hi,

Anyone managed to find a way beyond the 500 song list limit on the iDrive with the Ipod connector cable?

Even if I could see more than 500, it is a pain to twirl the knob to see them all. I'm reorganizing my playlist unless there is a jump or better way to search the list.

I would just set-up different playlists. You could always have Pop-1 (500 songs) Pop-2 (500 songs) etc that's what I'm going to start doing. My Ipod currently has about 4500 songs, but it's also all very organized. I'm consistent on the Genres: Rock, Pop, R&B, Dance, Classic etc so songs can be also access this way (CD4 or MP3-4) I believe.

Hope that helps
