I am looking into options for using an Ipod in my car. My car was used so I am in discovery mode on what I really have installed. Here's what I have discovered so far:

According to the vin I have CD Preperation.
I do not have the navigation option.
I have the single CD player.
I do not have the 6 CD changer.
I have the standard US audio system.
I have the sirius radio option.
I have the Aux input option.

I plugged in my Dell Jukebox player to test the Aux audio option. It works although the volume is very low.

What are my options for using an Ipod and can I install myself? What price ranges am I looking at?

Thanks to all in advance for your advice

Using the Google search at the top of each page, enter the words "iPod" and "MOST" and you should be able to find information about the iPod adapter that uses the CD changer wiring harness to tap into the MOST bus of the car...

heres the install for the Ipod for the E60/E61

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-OEM-iPO...sspagenameZWDVW

Ive read that if you replace the changer with this it will work fine until you do some sort of update so your better off installing it all yourself then taking it to the dealer and have them properly code the car and update the record that BMW keeps that has what equip is in your car

It also depends on what year the car is and if it has had any SW updates. The key is whether the SW supports MP3s. I don't recall the minmum level but the newer the better because of bug fixes. You can test that by burning an MP3 CD with iTunes or Nero. If it works in the main CD player, the software will accept the iPod adapter. Since you do not have a changer, I'd recommend a dealer install since they have to fish a cable from the main unit over to the glove box. A guess on a complete dealer install of the MOST bus iPod adapter is $600.
Sounds expensive but I've paid $900 for a BMW CD changer install.....
