Hi,

Anyone know of a thread that indicate DIY project for spring installation on a 545i ? I want to know how to access the rear strut from the top as well as any tips that can help me remove the coil/shock easier.

Thanks

You will need few tools - torque wrench, breaker bar, spring compressor, metric sockets (I think 16, 18 and 22 mm), floor jack and jack stands, and a good manual (Bentley?) to do the job. Its not that hard.

Hi,

Thanks, I have all the tool, just that I want to know how to remove the rear seats to access the stut tower. I have foldable seats.

Thanks

I've just installed a set of H&R Sport on a 04' 525. It doesn't have the foldable seats. I accessed the rear strut tower from the trunk. Here's the steps:
On the left side of the trunk,
1. remove the 2 plastic trim locks which are holding the outer side panel(the piece closer to the back of the car) in the trunk. Just turn the top of the lock 90 degree with a flat screwdriver and the whole thing will come out.
2. remove the two plastic trim locks holding the inner panel(the piece which is closer to the back seat. For this you'd need a trim remover, $4.99 in Autozone. it's like a screw driver with a tilted fork at the tip). Just pry up the inner lock stud with the trim remover and the lock will come out.
3. pull and fold the inner panel, which would reveal the strut tower. The tower is covered by a piece of dark gray foam. Just remove the foam and you'd be able to access the strut tower.

Hope this would help. Please let me know how it goes.

Good Luck!

P.S. The right side is pretty much the same as the left side.

You can see the location of the rear shock mounts when you look into the rear wheel well from underside.
