I am in the process of building a custom car and purchased fronts seats from an E60 series BMW. I thought it would be easy to hook them up but that is not the case. I have access to BMW's webwds site which has all of the electronic information but I can't figure out how they work. The seats have all electronics and wiring harnesses intact. Can someone tell me if installing these seats in a non-bmw vehicle is even possible?

I would think it would be a nightmare... your car might end up on the fake BMWs list if you do this!

Not sure what you are asking. If you have all the electronics information, and are already in the process of building a custom car, then shouldn't a wiring schematic to connect the electronics be a cakewalk?

And i could very well be missing your point but i'm pretty sure owners here already have their bmw seats installed

I thought it would be a cakewalk too. Connected power and ground to the seats according to the wiring diagrams and nothing works. Just seems like I am missing something. I understand owners already have their seats installed. Was hoping I could find someone who is familiar enough with the way the seats are wired to tell me if it is possible.

Just an FYI...I spoke with a technician at a BMW dealership. He said the seats need to get a signal from the CAN system, the information network in the car. They need to be programmed to a car before they will work. The only other way to make them work is to make your own switches and harnesses using relays. He said BMW does this for many components in the car for theft reasons.
