rudy, the ventilation works but i just can't check the box next to "parked car ventilation". however i can check the box next to the time. that makes me wonder if i actually activated the feature or not. thanks for the instructions though.
I believe it only works in position one.

My car always makes a strange humming (annoying) noise during deceleration on a certain speed range (between 65 kph to 55 kph, say between 40 to 30 miles). In the same speed range, the noise immediately stops by slightly pressing on accelerator or shifting to Neutral.
The dealer initially blamed the tires; later they said it may be due to downshifting gears and therefore it is normal. Regardless of the reason, I feel that a noise that has come up in only last 3 months of the 10 months of ownership must mean something is wrong somewhere and that it is not normal as it was not there before. Dealer even went as far as saying that they tested other cars and they all make the same noise.
Any technical comments or suggestions?
Can folks with 530i comment if they hear a similar noise which would be far more noticable with stereo switch off and a/c on low.
Thanks

My car sounds like a model T.
After it warms up, there's a loud ticking you can hear from the front of the car.
I've had the car in the shop several times. It seems to be getting louder.
The stealer says it's the "normal" operation of the electronic thermostat.
I've heard other cars and they don't have that noise. The stealer wants me to come in and listen to a couple of other cars that they say sound the same.
This noise started about 5 months after purchase.
This "normal" business is ridiculous. Is it 'Normal' to have a luxury sports car that cost two arms and a leg and sounds crappy?
I say it's a desing flaw due to quality control problems at BMW or their suppliers.

I suspect that your problem is due to the batery no having enough charge.

Are you trying to check the box with the key in position one or position two?
I believe it only works in position one.

Tonight, I will post a document about the E60 power management.
It will answer many questions about the behavior of the car when the batery charge gets low.

flowerfred, you are right, the light is on.? but still can't check the box.
The little red light comes on when the ventilation is scheduled to come on at a later time or under manual mode. If you put the key in position one, I think you'll be able to check the box that allows manual (not delayed) ventilation.
