My 2004 530i needs a new battery. Do I have to reset anything after I put the new battery in? Is it just like taking the old battery out and putting the new one in? Any help would be welcome. Thanks.

We have had some discussion about battery change earlier:

My recommendation: if you have active steering, give work for dealer. Without active steering it's suitable for DIY project. But I know that there are other opinions as well.

If your at all bothered about interrupting power supply, you could attach a trickle charger to the jump start terminals in the engine bay as you change the battery.

Then the car won't even know you have done it, just a thought. Do be careful with the live lead when you take it off the battery though as of course it could short if it makes contact with bodywork.

Hope that helps
