Can anyone tell me on how to remove the ECU and its location in my E60.

I think its in the engine bay at the top left underneath the air filter but i need a detailed discription on how to get to it without breaking or damaging anything.

Thanks

Didn't you have another BMW with a "zapped" ecu which you ended up declaring lost to your insurance?

Yeah thats me!
Since then ive been engaged into the Chiptuning industry and ive learnt a great deal.
Just need to know how to get the ecu out of the car cause ive got another EDC16 ecu which im experimenting with. My auto electrican has gone on holiday so im unable to ask him how he got the ECU out.
Im suprised no-one has asked this before on this forum.

Do you know how to get it out with no problems by any chance?

i dont know the exact procedure.. but i know its located in the upper left of the engine bay. it requires unscrewing of those black panels, but before that you have to disconnect an electrical wire thats black on the outside of the panels. one of the panels you have to remove in the upper engine bay is half the width of it. and then youll be seeing some white/clearish coverings under it all once it's all off.. under it all youll find is a bunch of wires that just need to be unclipped from the ecu. just takes a little elbow grease to pull straight up the ecu "box" after unclipping those wires. sorry i cant be of any better help.

Here are the M5 instructions. Adjust accordingly since you're probably talking for those cars that drive on the wrong side of the road.

I will post a little tutorial in this thread once i get my digital camera up and running.
