Thumbs up

Can someone tell me how to remove the lower mirror covers on the M5 mirrors? I need to swap them for something new.

**EDIT** - I found these DIY's on M5Board: http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e63-bmw-m...ror-covers.html

Do you really have to remove the mirror from the housing? If so, anyone know where to start? I assume the same applies to the standard mirrors as well, for removing, no? I should have watched more McGyver when I was younger!

No Calton, you do not have to remove the whole mirror housing, you only have to unclip the mirror glass and the wires for heating/de-chroming from behind (turn it fully inward, so you could put your fingers behind of it) and then you'll be free to unscrew the 4 screws that hold the outer ring. Then unscrew the 2 crews that hold the lower part and slide it out carrefully, because it has some plastic aligning clips. That easy.

You need to have L or T style thin torx tools (with long body) because the screws are sitting deep inside the holes, about 1 1/2 inch deep.
