I have an 04' E60 530i with the standard sound system
I am planning to add the Alpine iDA-X001 Digital Media Receiver that will alos hook up my ipod.
Is adding an aftermarket audio system a difficult task...I am assuming it will go in the slot below the climate control.

Have any one done it themselves and can provide inputs?

thanks

Are you planing to remove the factory radio? Are you adding aftermarket amplifiers or using the factory? Changing speakers? Its Definately possible it may just be ALOT of work, are you doing a custom dash?

I dont plan to remove the factory unit. Instead just add the receiver to the slot under the climate control and somehow connect it to the factory stereo so that the iPod connected to the receiver can use the factory sound system. Would liek to do it with as little modification as possible.

Hi there, you can see what I did, it allowed me to keep all BMW functions and did not modify the dash.
Sound is phenominal. I have changed the AMPs since the layout drawing in the post to be DLS 4 CH + DLS 1200 W Monoblock (the Big 5 was not enough to drive the 2 10" subs.) Lots of pics.
Post link is below.
Hope this helps in some way.
