Is there a DIY on changing the oil on a 2005 530i? This is my first oil change after the free maintenance ran out. I saw a write-up n changing the oil on a 550i, not sure if it applies to a 530i. Also, does everyone typically run only BMW oil and filters? Is there anything comparable that would save me cash?

The thread is for an LCI 535i

But post #7 addresses differences for his '05 530i and post #55 has a video for an '07 530i oil change (the vid takes some time to load, it's a large file)...

Vermillo,

Castrol make the oil that BMW use in Autralia. It is a full synthetic 20w-50. Depends on your climate and country. The genuine bmw filter and oil seals are a must. Be very carful when unscrewing the oil cartridge cap with the oil filter tool this can scratch the engine cover. Aparts from that its pretty straight forward and there is a thread in this forum. Do the oil change every 10,00km no longer. I do it every 5,000km
good luck!
