Thanks HotLap - this gives me a good idea of what to expect after this kind of 'surgery'.

Am thinking now about the relative value of $100 for the dealer to deal with it vs. getting out the handy cutter tool...

You do realise that now your cool box doesn't have its seal anymore.

Actually, Bruce, I ordered the Ipod/USB adapter kit and I believe it is located in place of the sliding ventilation door so it's not ventilated anyway. Also, the top tray did not seal the lower compartment in my console...you could see around it to the lower porton...I had read that somewhere else and couln't figure out how that top tray was supposed to seal off the lower console?

All, I could use some quick advice on how to remove the top "tray" from the center console...I don't want to break anything, but the driver's side pivot point will not come out...it appears it is screwed in from the back side (underneath the smaller console lid piece that slides near the hand brake. Anyone have a clue how that is removed? Additionally, I noticed there is a small (screw sized) access cover underneath the sliding side console top with a red circle sticker on it...what happens if you remove that screw? Finally, how does the (smaller) rear piece of the center console lid come off? I was assuming it would "pop out" but it seems very stubborn and I don't want to break anything....

TIA
Does the new 535xi 2008 come with this tray installed? I've never seen one but don't think I want it. Thanks.

Have you installed the Ipod/USB adapter and do you have any pics or DIY?

Thanks for the awesome board.... Just RIPPED my tray out yesterday.

I knew I could count on the hidden info ninjas of the internets when I got the BMW..... probably the best thing about a BMW after the full maintenance is the enthusiast support!
