has anyone removed the cell phone holder
I've seen it discussed but I don't know if anybody has done it yet. It appears that you have to remove the whole center console section to get to the mounting points. If you try it take some pics and discribe the procedure. I'm diffently interested!

if nothing pops up overnight I'll just tear it apart tomorrow.
I had my dealer remove it before my car was delivered. It makes a huge difference.
But from what's been written in the past on this topic (do a search), it's a very difficult DIY job. Better spend a hundred bucks and let your service guys do it.

I personally don't use it and would rather just have the open space in teh center console. any tips on removing it?
And, I thought that some E60's came with a holder for a phone available from BMW that no one would want anyway. Please take my confusion from me. Out, out damn confusion! I beseach you!

Can someone post pictures of what it looks like with and without this?
If you leave it in, is it big enough for sunglasses or anything like that?
If you take it out, what do you have left there? No chance for a cupholder here?

Here's some pix from when I did my iPod install that might shed some light on this.
This pic shows the upper storage compartment (I use it to hold coins) circled in yellow on the passenger seat after I removed it by unscrewing the 4 torx screws circled in red. The cell phone cradle can be installed to replace this part.

Once you have the upper storage compartment removed, you can remove the hinged piece by wedging the plastic hinges on the left and right sides (you'd probably ruin the piece in the process, but no big deal if you don't want it there). Ignore the red circle in this pic.

This pic gives you an idea how much room there is in this storage area. I keep my iPod in the bottom half.
