can someone explain "yank" method once more
i'd like to try it but the right way also!

 

Lol. You mean my yank method?

Basically just depress the three tabs on the top. And then stick one hand into the grille, grabbing the back of the slants, and pull out hard in one strong motion.

It works and no broken tabs!

 

and how much paint scrapped off the bumper where the bottom clips touch it on the way out? thats my only concern.
even if putting some tape surely the force would move the tape out anyway?

 

Just do it already. It doesn't cause any damage at all. Why would I and others recommend something if it will cause damage?!

 

hehe the grills are on their way. i will do it when i have them in hand
getting the front bumper resprayed around the same time so they'll probably come out at that time anyway!

 

forgot to ask. how much force to use to make sure you don't snap the tabs while yanking?

hey to the OP, thank you. i used your method last night and only ended up with minimal cuts, scrapes and bruises. i was able to get both grills out w/o breaking a single tab.

i took out my grills so i could refinish them to high gloss black instead of the factory chrome look. i also took out my RPi scoops while at it and refinished them in a high gloss red enamel. ill post a quick recap later today....but first i need to put on a couple more coats and a shit-ton of clear coat before they are ready to be reinstalled on my car.

Just used this method and it went (kinda) smooth. Lots of yanking on the 1st one. Driver came out very easy after I had the passenger out. Pics to come.
