At the risk of being ridiculed unmercifully (and/or having a bunch of people try to slam GM).... does anyone know how our stock mufflers are constructed? The reason I ask is that the CTS-V guys have a mod they have developed to pull the sound deadening material out of the stock muffler to make it louder/deeper, supposedly with no resonance issues.
All they do is drop the exhaust and use a step drill bit to make a hole (only about 5/8?). The muffler is filled with a fiberglass like material that can be pulled out through the hole ? it is a continuous strand, so you just get it started and keep pulling. They take from half to all of the material out of each muffler (they get duals from the factory). Then they use a metal snap in plug you can get from the hardware store for about a buck, plus a little high temp sealer to make sure it doesn?t leak. (I?ll find a link to the Cadillac forum if anyone is interested)
I?d be willing to try the mod, but before I drop the exhaust would like to know if the E60 muffler has a similar material inside (I?m betting that it does). If you have a muffler that is off your car and are willing to drill a hole in it, let me know what you find ? then I?ll try the mod on my car to see how it sounds. Worst that can happen is I?ll have to buy a Supersprint muffler or try to shove sound deadening material back through the hole!

Sounds like a great idea. I'm a big fan of free mods. Your post is 8 months old now, have you done the mod yet?

At least on the 545s, you can weld the valve on the second pipe open, which makes it a little bit deeper. I don't know if the valve exists on the 525/530.

and judging from the OP's sig, he went with a B&B, so I don't think it worked.
