I clipped a parking curb in a parking lot and broke the fairing in front of the drivers side front tire. I've got a replacement for the "shark fin" as the BMW guys call it, but was wondering if anyone had any experience removing and replacing this piece. Thank you kindly, Jim

I'm confused too -- I thought OP was referring to the roof-top fin?

I'll get a pic tomorrow and post it for you. Btw the OEM parts catalog doesn't show it at all.

That would be a great help ... I'm sure you'll get some quick answers. I think you may be referring to a small plastic-sheet piece that is under the frame behind the front wheels ... like a small air deflector. Which, by the way, is exactly the purpose it serves.

Yes but I thought it is like a mini mud flap? So its for deflecting wind?

Well, my camera has got a problem now! Sorry, no pics yet. But, this is the part number and description: Part number 51 71 7 033 753, Cover, bottom, left. It is hard molded black plastic with a molded-in semi-hard rubber fairing (this is what I ripped off)

I see now why they call it a shark fin. Hopefully you've had sucess changing it already.

Not replaced yet! The screws have been removed, but there are two locking type tabs that are proving to be a real pain. They are about 4 1/2 inches apart and extend up into the center cover. I can get one, or the other, to click free, but not both at the same time. Its a challenge
