My Ride: 04 545i HUD, comfort seats, PDC, moon roof, Logic 7, Nav, Steptronic, K7 and diffusers, Aux-in for iPod!
after looking into everything, and being very disappointed at the lack of options for my iPod in the 2004 545i, finally found the best solution:
NanoFM: the smallest, but full featured transmitter that runs off 12VDC, and takes audio jack directly from iPod. Costs $160 everywhere, including eBay, but worth the money. Small, adjustable, and hideable. This transmitter transmits at 25mW, not huge, but enough to swamp out any interference from competing stations. It's just the only way to go. Alternatively, try the 1 or 2 watt options available on eBay. They are much larger, bulkier, and harder to hide from the FCC if someone gets interference on their radios as you drive by, but will drown out the radio of an entire town!
Hope this helps. Ridiculous, isn't it, what we first adopters have to go through to old compatibility. I mean, auxiliary audio input is kind of passe by now, isn't it?
