Greetings, I am trying to ship my ECU to Richard Hamann's guys but still cannot figure which box is ECU. Hamann says its "silver box with sizes of approx. 15 x 10 x 3 cm's".
Official BMW dealer would charge alot, thats why I am trying to figure it myself and deinstall in garage.

If anyone did that trick let me know, thanks!

Is it ECU?

Oh yes, maybe, I don't have it on my car. It looks similar to the ABS

I think it's under the passenger's side microfilter location.

When you open your bonnect look near the right hinge of the bonnet in front of the bigger wiper. On either side you will see a big black box that catches all the dirt washed off the car. The ECU is under that box. You'll need a lot of tools to get to it. I know because I saw DMS at work.

Not attempting to hijack the thread but :
Does any one know what version of ECU is used in the E60 525d 177hp variant. I am looking at trying to download the ECU image and have a play with mapping but need to know what type of ECU it is so I can order the correct interface.

I have seen on some sites that its a Siemens EDC15 and others state its EDC16, both require different interfaces.

I understand as well that I will need to attempt to program using the 20pin connector under the bonet/hood instead of the OBDII connector. Does anyone know where this is ?

And finally I think it uses KWP2000 protocol across ISO9141 is this correct ?

Would be nice to do this myself and learn in the process.

Thanks

as Bruce Miranda said. That's exactly where it is. You need to take of the Aircon filter on that side, then unscrew the bottom tray of the aircon filter housing and then you slowly get to it.
It is secured in place with a white-ish flap screwed over it like a bridge.
Once that one's gone, you can pull it out to the top and just need to undo the two connectors on there.
