E60 Washer Pump & Reservoir Replacement
This is a relatively easy job to perform. (Easier if you only replacethe Windshield washer pump and grommet).
1. Slightly loosen the lug nuts on the driver side (Left) wheel.
2. Jack-up the car using the center jack pad (23" back from thevery bottom edge of the front bumper) and set on jack stands under the driver& Passenger doors.
3. Remove the wheel (thoroughly clean and set aside).
4. Remove the engine underbelly panel cover by turning thescrews 1/4 turn to release.
5. Remove the under-panel that sits in front of the wheel well.
The reservoir and pump is located directly behind the inner wheelwheel lining (towards the front of the wheel/vehicle).
7. Remove a total of 10, 8mm hex screws, and 1, 10mm hex screw, from the front, inner and side, wheel well lining
8. Pull the lining back and secure it in place with a bungee cord.
9. Place a flat pan under the reservoir area to catch anyerrant fluid leaks.
10. You can now see the reservoir and two pumps. (It's thepump closest to the engine (inner pump) that leaks most frequently and suppliesthe windshield).
I also replaced the rubber grommet for the headlight washer pump:
11. Since the 545i/E60 is plagued with cracking reservoirs (Coolant& SMP) I decided to replace the reservoir and pump/grommet at the sametime.
12. Using a flat head screwdriver release the top (of reservoir),black vacuum pump line by pushing up on the black rubber line with thescrewdriver.
13. The feeder tube from the top of the engine needs to bepulled free from the reservoir. Simply twist and pull back on it.
14. Pull on the wiring harness clip so that it releases from thereservoir.
15. The pump closest to the engine (Windshield washer pump) needs to have its black rubber supply line pulled from it. Alsorelease the black rubber supply line from its route on the reservoir.
16. Release the electrical connection from that pump by pinchingthe tabs and pulling up on the connector.
17. On the outer pump (closest to the fender) release the supplyline from the reservoir ad pull the pump out of its grommet.
18. Now pull the inner pump free from its grommet base by pulling straight up.
Revised windshield washer pump from BMW:
19. There are 3 screws holding the reservoir in place. Unscrew all of them. (Two are on theunderside of the reservoir and one is facing the inner wheel well on top
20. The reservoir is now free from the car.
21. Replace in previous order and make sure that all lines/tubes/wiresfollow the same OEM Path to position.

I did this recently and also found this video for the washer pump. It pretty easy to replace. I brought an aftermarket pump online for less than $20. Just do a search for the best price.
