Good idea. I was under the impression they just came off with some force.
I looked up this thread to remember the details. I did it with my E60 and enjoyed it. Not loud but just a little more exhaust sound especially when decelerating. Hard to say how much difference on accelerating.
I'm getting ready to do it to my F10. That's how much I liked it

A little bit old thread, but i've done this "mod" yesterday in my E61 545i, mainly cuz the flap was always closed (i suspect electrical controler is not working).
The sound is bit more deeper at idle, i didn't notice any change in performance at WOT, or in midrange - but still wondering is the torque doesen't drop if there is no flap closed until 3k rpm.
Anybody do dyno test maybe or racelogic accelerations after open flap all the time.

First off, there i literally no audible difference between having it open or closed. The exhaust on s stock E60 goes though the downpipe cats, another 2 cats, a resonator, then 2 10 diameter mufflers that weigh about 50lbs a piece.
The easiest way to do this is to cut the linkage to the vacuum servo and tack weld the top of it where the valve shaft come out of. You can leave the vacuum line hoked right up if you want and the car will think it still working.
