Better sound at idle (more of a rumble). In my mind should be more efficient as it is more a true dual all the time and not just at WOT. I have seen no negative effects and mine has been operating this way for a year and a half now.

Where is the valve in the exhaust?
I removed my exhaust system on my 2006 530d when i replaced my converter but i didnt notice any valves anywhere? May i have accidentally disconnected the whose when i removed the exhaust and never connected it again? wich pipe on the muffler should be closed at idle?

Looking at your picture you don't have it.

It's pretty obvious there's a little waste gate opening thing that is right by the muffler. The flap closes the "right" muffler tip when you are looking straight into the tips.

I have not noticed a difference other than I welcome the slight extra rumble. Just another note.. I got the JB4 installed as well and it actually has a trigger to open the flap.. so if you're going to do JB4 as well then don't bother doing this. Although it took me all of 10 minutes tops to do this when I went to my car to go home after work...

Hello everyone! Im new to this forum so please forgive my stupidity. I performed this little "mod" yesterday. Thing is, the valve still seems to be closed unless I open the throttle. Its a 05 545i sport with the systemic trans. When its running, I can open the valve by and it gets considerably louder. How cqn I get the valve to open more. I dont know if maybe theres a vacuum issue or what. When I open and close it by hand its kind of hard to do but seems to move ok.

Oh and also, barley any exhaust escapes from that muffler at idle. Id really like to open it more. I think that would be plenty of sound saving me at least $1000 on exhaust.

Opening it all the time would create a bit less back pressure. I'd imagine the engine compensates and adjusts.
