I'm about to start a stereo upgrade on a 2006 550 and will need to disconnect the battery. Is there a problem with leaving the battery disconnected for a long period of time such as over 12 hours? I noticed that there is a note in the battery well stating something like the system needs to be initialized after the battery is disconnected. what is the initalization procedure?

No one seems to know if this will cause a problem.
What is the longest anyone has had their battery disconnected and not had any problems after it was reconnected?

After a long period, everything will be reset which is not a big deal, almost 99% the lights go away within seconds. However, your AS (Active steering) will be lit. To just have to reset it, and your good. (See instructions in manual)

I also have an '06 550i. My car was shipped to me from Texas to California with the battery disconnected, which took 4 days. Once I reconnected it, everything was fine. I did reinit the AS, and the sunroof.
