OK guys. I know this has been done many times, but I had the camera handy and snapped away. I ordered the matte black replacement badges from Bimmian.com for $20, and just spent about 20 minutes doing the install. I got some advice from forum members DRANGED and Flyingpuck, in addition to what you get on Bimmian's website. What follows is an odyssey into the least difficult mod ever, except for maybe the rear reflectors.

What I used:

1. Masking tape. I couldn't find my blue painter's tape, but this stuff was 3M and worked fine.
2. Hair dryer. Just put it back before your wife/gf notices.
3. Dental Floss. I went with a nice Oral B Satin, but you make the call.
4. Goo Gone.
5. Alcohol.
6. Water.
7. Sharpie pen. Green looks nice and is environmentally friendly.

The requisite before photo:

Tape around the numbers & letter. Mark the locations with a Sharpie.

Heat the badges with a hair dryer on high/hot. Check with your finger and you'll feel the adhesive start to soften.

Run the floss behind each number/letter and use a sawing motion. They practically fall off.

This is the adhesive that was left. I simply pulled it off with my fingernails.

After the initial peeling, still a little adhesive.

You gotta put that watch in your sig....looks like the most expensive mod besides the E60 itself! :D

Thanks for the DYI...I have a feeling this will be on my list soon after I get my black matte grills on!

C'mon guys! I finally take the time to document a DIY and the focus is my chronograph? Geez. Oh, and, if you noticed the time, I took off work a few minutes early to get home and get started. And, yes, I got the hairdryer back in place before my wife got home. :D
