Continental Headlights
#1
Hi all I am off to Germany in the new year and was wondering if it is possible to manually adjust headlights so as the conform to Continental Spek. Or is it just a case of purchasing them and getting them fitted by the Beemer Stealers??

If you have Xenon's it is just a case of flicking the lever on each headlight.
If not, then the best way is to get a pair of plastic stick-on "beam benders" to mask part of your headlight.
I imagine that this is all the $tealer will do, so save a few quid and go down to Halfords or Wilkinsons etc. and DIY.

AFAIK, they don't adjust because the bit that throws the light down the left side of the road (rather than the right) is actually moulded into the glass and the reflector. The only way to do the change without sticky bits is perhaps to get a second-hand set from e-Bay, which will be significantly expensive (although not as expensive as Xenon's).
The reason why there is a lever on Xenon's is that the Xenon "bulb" throws light both ways. There is a mechanical mask that covers the "bulb" to create a left handed bias to the beam. When you flick to Main Beam, this mask retracts and you get the Full Monty. The lever just orientates the mask one way or another.
