My Ride: 2006 525xi

Guys, please help. I always thought all US MY06 models get chrome grille (slats and surround). It is clearly stated in the '06 sales brochure it is standard (see page 10).

It is also said so on '05 brochure but not on '04's. Why am I seeing many 05/06 owners doing this chrome grille mod.? The sales brochure is not acurate? Or maybe I am missing something?

Please clarify this guys since I am picking up my 525xi in a couple of weeks. If it doesn't have the chrome grille, I am gonna ask the dealer to throw that it. Thanks guys!

Chrome slats are usually reserved for the largest engine in a series. Some individuals with chrom switch to black and others with black prefer chrome.

mm afaik only the 545's get the chrome slats, but that brochure is deceiving, the info is wrong BUT you could show it to your dealer and ask for the chrome kidneys when you get the car and say that you are just asking what was offered in the brochure (get the printed material) and im pretty sure he will try to help you out with a pair.

Chrome slats only on the 545 in the UK, was the same that only the top engined car on the E46 3 (330) series got the chrome slats...hope this helps

i remember the first lot of 545I in the U.S. doesn't have chromo grill, when i first bought the 04 530i, i have the car side by side with the 545i and the grill are identical. The only noticetable difference from outside is the wheel and the exhaust.

I went through the exact same thing. I argued (not aggressively) that the brochure stated chrome slats on the grill. But walking the car lot and doing my research I realized that my '06 530xi was NOT coming with chrome slats. Since I do not have the sports pkg. I have chrome surrounding the door windows, plus whenever I looked at a plain black grill my eye always went right to the silver radiator silver mesh behind it (whatever it's called). I had my salesman order the chrome slats ahead of time and they were installed for me just before taking delivery. BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THEM ! Not too bad though, I think it was around $200 with Parts & Labor, but well worth it for me , it makes a world of difference, while you're at it I suggest you get the rear bumper reflectors , it breaks up all the mass of the bumper and you get rid of the plugs.
