I’m reading this many years after it was posted but hopefully someone is still working on these!
would there be any problems in buying a second hand speedo and then doing this? Would the new speedo just have to be coded to the new car?
many thanks
i believe it should be coded. I changed the LEDs in my car awhile back, if you want to play around instill have the speedo. PM me.
Thanks for your reply buddy. I would for sure but I’m afraid I’m all the way over in the U.K. We can buy speedos her for about £20-£30 so I’ll just go for it and see how it goes.
Thanks anyway though

"Coding" the instrument cluster is NOT what needs to be done.... depending.
The exact same cluster will work correctly. If you retrofit a M5 or M6 cluster for example, then coding it for correct oil Temps etc will need to happen.
The bigger issue is the mileage and tamper indicator.
if you get a cluster from a car that has fewer miles, it will automatically display the higher miles from your existing car and display a small red dot to indicate tamper.
If you get one from a higher mileage car, it will display the higher miles than what is actually on your car. And a red dot..
The fix for this requires reprogramming one of the memory chips on the circuit board to make it appear as a brand new cluster then it will work with your car with no tamper dot.
Thanks for your reply.
im sure there was more to it than I previously thought.
move done some coding on my e60 but I’ll def have to do a lot more research into doing that.
Thanks for your help!
So I got the cluster done to white and blue. Looks sick in my opinion.
i also attempted the air con lights(picture attached)
but just wondered if anyone had changes the lights in the cd/sat nav ccc? Would I need to open up the ccc unit to get to the leds? I want to change out the volume and skip buttons etc.
thanks guys Not too hard at all. Just need a steady hand and a flat tip soldering iron was a great buy I want to change the cd/sat nav buttons to math the speedo white
