So a friend of mine with a 2004 E60 drops by to have some things coded.
Things that went well:
1)I succesfully added the digital speed display in the KOMBI module including both KORREKTUR settings.
2)I read his LMA module as his eyebrows weren't on. Strangly the code said: SIDEMARKER_US as being aktiv. But still the eyebrows wouldn't work. So I coded the LMA module to say nicht_aktiv, when I did that his head lights flashed for a second and his eyebrows came on??!! Again read the LMA module, and it was still set to aktiv eventhough I wrote nicht_aktiv. Anyway his eyebrows are now on, so a succes again.

Now the strange bit in the CAPPL module:
He wanted the following done:
ACOUSTIC set to aktiv
AMBANDS set to nicht_aktiv
MP3_CCC set to full as he cannot play MP3 cd's
So I coded all the changes, wrote it back to the module (no errors), but nothing changed. I re-read the module and all the settings were back to the old state? Tried a couple of time and eventually 1 change every time. So all of a sudden the ACOUSTIC option in the iDrive were there and we could set the sound. Succes
Next run the AMBANDS were disabled. Re-read the module and it does state nicht_aktiv. When pressing the button on the wheel for next entertainment however, it does NOT skip the AMBANDS. So no succes. Not really a major problem for him though.
But the most important will just not work! The MP3 function will not allow itself to be set to FULL. No matter how many times I write it to the CAPPL module, it just defaults back to the original setting.
Original settings was:
MP3_CCC:
nicht_aktiv
extern
full
Now I changed it to having FULL only, moved FULL to the first in line, changed nicht_aktiv into aktiv, etc. But nothing helped, it just defaults back???
Anybody have an idea what the issue could be? Old software in his car maybe? But then why can I change other options (partially).

ANY tips will be greatly appreciated!

p.s. here are allt he options he has installed:

Did you recode the car with FSW_PSW.MAN?

I've never succesfully added anything to the FA, always get some error.

Yes recoded with FSW_PSW.MAN, just like with all other module's. And always clear the MAN and TRC file before any next action.

Well for normal coding I never get any errors, so that's why it's so strange it won't change the MP3 bit in CAPPL. Everything else works.

The error on coding the FA has been so long ago I can remember. Might need to check in my own car what the error is. But does the +KMP3 really need to be added? I coded my 2006 E61 to enable MP3 and never added the +KMP3 to my FA.....

Prior to 03/2005 MP3 was not anabled by default, there was some issues with the software. Maybe he needs to update SW.
Adding FA +KMP3 (FA_WRITE as job and not SG_CODIEREN) to CAS and LMA will activate that future, also code CHOST, CAUDI and CGATE to be shure.
I coded the whole car in one time before it was active, also let the car go to sleepmodus (wait for 16 min till the green light of your windowsswitch turns off).

As for the lines
MP3_CCC:
nicht_aktiv
extern
full
its only full that must be coded and remove nicht_aktiv & extern.
Are you sure you are altering the CAPPL trace and not the full CAS content, because its strange that those three lines are in CAPPL trace.

I also think his car needs a software update. He lives over an hour away so I want to be sure I can add stuff to his FA before asking him to come over again. Will try again in my car if I can add/remove thing from the FA.
I also only have FULL in my car so was surprised to see 3 lines. I am sure I am doing it right as I have programmed lots of cars in the past, but here's my guideline:

Load FSW PSW profile
F1
F3
Select CAS
F6
F4
Select Module (CAPPL in this case)
F4
go to WORK folder
Open FSW_PSW.TRC
Edit changes
Save as FSW_PSW.MAN (ANSI and not TXT)
F5
select coapiReadSgGetFswPsw
OK
Ok
F2
select SG_CODIEREN
F3

I agree with Sas and 545felix. Add +KMP3 to the FA. FA_WRITE to CAS and LMA. Set MP3_CCC to full in the CAPPL. I would try that.

My 2004 E60 has MP3 playback capability (CD and DVD), my vehicle software was updated by a BMW Center. I do not have a CD changer. I do have the BMW IPod interface.

Enable "next_source" and skipping the am bands will work.
