 My wife mentioned that the front brakes were squeaking at 65K. So while the car was getting a state inspection, I had the guys at the local Goodyear shop, who I have a personal relationship with, give me an estimate. Imagine my surprise when they asked me if I was sitting down. $1,700!!!! Are you kidding me? I do love how they stop so nice and short, but come on. So then I called the local BMW dealership just to make sure Goodyear wasn't yanking my chain and they said anywhere from $800-$1,200 per axle. Both are astronomical to me. I was told that the rotors cannot be re-ground and must get new ones from the dealership ($300 front $200 rear). If I wanted to do this myself, is there a way I could save on the parts? I can do the work, but if I'm only saving $250, I'll let someone else spend their time doing it.

get aftermarket rotor and break pads, you can get solid or slotted rotor if you want, but not drilled, unless you get bramboo $$$

You can have the stock rotors turned!! Pads are fairly cheap as well....If you have done brakes before you'll be fine!!!!The brakes are the same as any car....You will just have to buy a new sensor for the front pads...Sensors are about $15...Pads should be around $100....Turning rotors are about $7 each rotor...I bet you could get out for around $150!!

this is highway robbery!!

do it yourself and save. i did and it's pretty straight forward. even if you bought all new parts, you'd still be paying much less than what shops are charging. i spent approx. $500 for all four rotors and 8 pads, brand new. good luck

I would just get your own parts and DIY! Save tons of $$ and learn alot more about ur car Parts for the E60 are around $400- $550. That usually included 4 rotors and 2 set of pads..

I have to agree with everyone that posted above. The work is really not that difficult. The parts can be had for about $600. Try calling Garry Romani at BMW of Newport if you want the BMW parts, or look to ECS Tuning or autohausaz.com for the OEM. $1700 is just robbery.

Yah +1 on ecs I got thier ss brake lines

I had the rotors made for 250 and the pads are 125/pair lines were 80.00 then you have labor for flush and R&R..so thats 455in parts for the front plus 2 to 3 hundred for labor possibly. Yeah go thru Gary if you need factory stuff 25% puts a huge dent in costs

i just ordered from r1 concept. 350 total for drilled and slotted roters and pads. I did not order the top of the line, but one level below. The difference in price was about 200 dollars and the only difference, according to them was the next level up was thicker and they could drill an extra hole per set. Also, call them up if you order, they gave me a few dollars off and free shipping. sensors were 30 shipped off ebay. DIY DIY DIY DIY DIY
