I consider myself somewhat mechanical, having played with many cars and motorcycles, but I am stumped with my 530xi battery problem. I feel like an idiot. And the problem is: How do I get the side cover off in the trunk to check on the battery connections/fuses/battery itself. This vehicle is a 2006 model and there is absolutely no manuals available that I can find. So, I see the two buttons on the side panel and I turn them and pull them out. The side panel is as tight as ever. I pull up the spare tire cover and no help. So I ask the BMW gurus out there; what's the trick? Thanks.

Lift the trunk mat and you'll see a cut out(hole) in the corner cover that was hidden by the mat. Lift the panel out by pulling from the hole.

Now I really feel dumb because I saw that small oblong cutout; I just didn't pull on it hard enough. Thanks.
P.S. I should change my moniker to "nooneishome" and point to my head. :>)
