Add a thermostat to that too haha. Car told me twice the last 3 days. I cleared the code and it came back a day or two later.

The valve cover gaskets call for 7.1 hours. With my air tools and experience, i hope to do it in a good amount less. I'll be happy if i can do everything in that time frame (valve cover gaskets, upper cover gaskets, and the thermostat).

The job itself is not that bad, its just time consuming. Most of the job you are moving crap out of the way to get to what you're trying to replace.

Have you been able to replace the valve cover gasket yet?

Was excited to see this thread as I am trying to finish a LH valve cover replacement this morning, left over from Sunday. I can not get the valve cover out due to clearance issues near the firewall and strut tower area. Mostly the cam position sensor is the real reason for the need of further clearance.

Maybe the poster ran into the same thing?? Does anyone have a Bentley manual that can help me determine the steps to get the correct clearance? I read a couple posts about slipping the new gaset around the cover but I tried that and oh what a bitch working at the rear cover area I'd rather take it off and clean, apply the correct sealent at the cam lobes and timing cover areas.

Help needed!

PS last resort is to call a flat bed and have it taken to a local INDY.

Thermostat is easy, only plan on doing it if you need to drain out your coolant though. I replaced the thermostat and water pump when I was working on my belts. Jiggle your water pump to see if there's any play, or if it feels loose with the belt off. My pump had a lot of play, so a new one had to go in. The thermostat is a huge piece connected to the water pump, flush out the entire system with a hose, clean off the connection points and be VERY CAREFUL not to overtighten the bolts that connect the thermostat to the water pump. There's 3 total, 2 of them bolted fine to the pump, but the 3rd was so tight that the head broke off. Luckily the damaged bolt is keeping the two connected very well, and I dont have any leaks.
