So I've been getting the "smell" from my AC lately, so I went on detailersdomain and purchased a can of 1z Klima-Cleaner.

The DIY is practically nothing and it is really simple to follow the instructions on the can.

1. Turn off the car and make sure your HVAC system is completely off.

2. Spray the entire contents of the Klima-Cleaner into the center vent.

3. Wait 20 minutes.

4. Restart the car, open all the doors and run the AC for at least one minute with all the doors open, making sure that fresh air is coming into the interior. I did it for about 10 minutes.

5. Enjoy your new smell-less AC

Now, here's where my "mixed" results came in. When I'm running the AC, the smell from the vents is spring-clean, absolutely awesome - like you'd get from a brand new car. However, when I run the fans with the AC off, I still get the "wet" smell - except now, it has the added smell of the 1z Klima-Cleaner mixed into it. I'll try to run the fan on max with the doors open for a few minutes tomorrow and see if that helps.

Best,

V.

Thanks for sharing.
I spray into driver and passenger sides because I could fully insert a tube. E60 has two microfilters so I think it has to be sprayed for both sides.

You may have a point there. I've been thinking about ordering some more Klima Cleaner and spraying into the passenger-side one and seeing if the smell goes away completely.

Still weird that I'm getting ANY smell at all - an ANY mode - because my microfilters are BRAND new. And I keep things in pretty top shape for the most part. If it wasn't just the "wet" smell, i'd be looking for dead animals in the car, but its really just a smell of condensation. Weird thing is - it disappears totally when I run the AC, it only comes when I'm running the fan without the AC

If you have your AC on and the air is recirculating, then it has nothing to do with your cabin filters. You may want to spray out the hvac inlet ports under the front seats to effectively erradicate the " smell. "

+1. Also, it would be more effective to spray from under the hood with cabin filter elements removed. That will guarantee cleaner go through the evaporator to "kill" the mold and hence the smell.

I think I'll get another bottle of this stuff and spray with the filters removed from under the hood.

I'll add pics to the DIY and report results in a bit - takes a while to get the Klima Cleaner in from the site
