no, as long as you have the rubber pads you're good
The Rhino ramps only have one rubber pad at the front or thin end of the ramp. (The back or tall end is just plastic on the floor.) To be safe, I purchased 2 cheap, small, rubber floor mats that are very thin and tacky which I will place under the back end of the ramp. By placing the mats under the ramps, I can DEFINENLY tell that they are much more difficult to move on my sealed garage floor, and thus safer on the drive up. (I'm doing this to avoid having to crawl around on the dirty and rough driveway. I will feel really foolish if I die. )

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

You'll need 8.5 qts.

Mobil 1 is great, make sure you get 0w-40 though. The regular 5w-30 they recommend is not ACEA A3 certified, you need to fine an oil that is A3 certified and you'll be good to go.

Castrol Syntec Ow-30 is also another good choice and is A3 certified, and BMW LL-01 certified as well.

I just checked the original PDF and it opened fine for me. Try "save as" and save it to your computer, then try opening it. Worst case, PM with your email and I will send it to you.

I'm glad this has been helpful for others. A few responses to other comments:

1. I use Rhino Ramps on a concrete floor, epoxy-coated, and they do slip a bit even with their rubber pads. So I place small rubber-bottom door mats (same ones that I use as placemats under the tires in the garage, so as to not peel the floor sealer) under the ramps and that kept them fixed in place. Door mats are $8 each at Target or Wal-Mart.
2. The AT filter/fluid change is quite a bit more work so I decided to pay for it at the local dealer. $295 + tax.
3. I plan on doing DIY oil changes in between the dealer-scheduled changes. Dealer doesn't know or care.

1. Thanks to the OP. Very helpful information.

2. Questions:
a. Where did you get the information about how much oil to use? My dealer told me I only need 8 qt.
b. Where did you get your torque values from?

Thanks again for the helpful post.

Thanks to the OP for the outstanding write up. I changed my oil for the first time since the free service ended. Getting it on the ramps was the hardest thing. They kept slipping. I had some rubber matts but they still slipped a bit, but finally got it on the ramp. After that is was way easy (a bit messy, but only becasue I bearly fit under the car.) Thanks!

Where do you buy the filter and o-rings at? I guess the oil could be bought at wal-mart or autozone right?
