Great write up. I'm a DIY oil changer myself and have done my 550 a few times. Here's another trick. Buy yourself an extra oil filter housing ($20 or so at the dealer). That way you have the filter and O-rings pre-loaded before you start the process. Saves you a trip under the car and speeds up the process a bit. Also, if you happend to crack the plastic housing on a Saturday afternoon by over-torquing, you have an extra to fall back on.

If thats so, I dont see why it doesnt apply to the 645 correct? Are their diff part numbers for filters or anything for the 4.4 engines?

wow what hypocrite!

You don't need it because you are a DIY hater. Go your dealer and pay them.

My Ride: My Bimmer's info is in my sig, so I'll tell you about my garage toy. It's a 1997 Porsche Boxster. The car is black on black and I have replaced every single thing on the car (interior, exterior, drivetrain, suspension) except for the sheet metal and the convertible top (both of which will be next I guess). I love my Pcar more than any other car I have ever owned and will probably keep it for the rest of my life. Porsche. There is no substitute.

I am assuming I can use these instructions for my 2007 550i, right?

Awesome write up! Thanks very much for taking the time to document this and put together the DIY. You made it look so easy. I am jealous of you nice clean workspace. My garage is littered with kids bikes and hockey equipment!

Very nice job Daytona!

I should note that I just changed the oil in my '05 525i and it only took 7 quarts of Mobil1 5w-30 and the oil filter is accessible from the TOP of the engine with a 34mm socket (or maybe it's 36mm).
