My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.
Leatherique Pristine Clean wiped on the steering wheel with a terry cotton towel and that will fix your problem. And it won't harm the leather or the dye.

Wheelskins. Get it to match your interior and you're golden.
I used one in my E39 before, which was dull and had peeling leather. Get some leather gloves when sewing the nylon. It'll help with the tightness and save your hands.

My Ride: 530I Silver gray with gray leather with Premium Package, Logic 7 Premium sound system with Ipod interface, xenon adaptive headlights, Active steering, Power retractable rear sunshade, Comfort seats, Cold weather package and M5 OEM 166 wheels, Sprintbooster. Ceramic Tint all around, Bilstein Sports shocks with Eibach springs, Brake performance Rotors and Axxis ceramic pads.
I just use Lexol Cleaner and a face terry cloth towel. Done maybe one's a month. I have used Magic Eraser before on my gray seats to take out stains from my black leather jacket. Maybe I was a little aggressive about it . I use Lexol Cleaner with the eraser and the dye came off like it was sanded. Luckily for me the dealer took care of it and re-dye my seat under warranty. Bottom line, be careful with it.

Btw, wear leather gloves when you string and pull the thread through,
it'll save your fingers and hands.
