yeah... like this:

1. wash with dish soap (dawn, etc)
2. use clay bar with a lubricant (i use mothers showtime)
3. wash and dry (use regular car soap)
4. paint cleaner
5. polish
6. wax, preferably a paste carnuba
7. admire

Wash
Clay
Polish (I like Griots #3 but there are zillions of polishes)
Seal (today's paint sealer do a better job protecting the paint I use Klasse AIO but again there are zillions of products)
Wax (with a nice carnuba, I use P21s)

Or take it to a very good detailer, ask your local dealer if you don't know anyone

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

I would suggest using a clay bar first. The OTC stuff at the stores is fine-grade clay, but you could get some medium or even heavy grade clay online.
However, using a more aggressive clay will introduce micro-marring to your paint and you will need to go over it with a finishing polish.

Those two combined should remove the spots. But there are other methods as well:
- Heat gun trick
- Chemical Guys Water Spot Remover (a dedicated product for removing spots)

Cleaner waxes and AIOs won't take them out if they are etched to bad into your clearcoat. I would suggest starting with clay, then going to cleaner wax or polish to clean up the marring.
