Not to mention the pain in the ass that even after you work for a whole day in car detaling you still can see how scratches, dings and stuff re-appear after 2-3 weeks slowly but surely.

This is one of the many applications of nano-technology! Not saying that's what you saw, but nano-technologists are working on paint that repairs itself, and that can also change colour on demand.
