Where did you pick up your orbital and for how much? Random orbitals oscillate, not rotate in circles right?
I got my orbital direct from Griot's. I think it was $129. And yes, they oscillate so that they don't work the same area over and over, thus potentially causing you to burn the paint.

Check out this link, where I posted some before and after comparison pics using Scratch-X.

I have Scratch X too. Works pretty well, but I like Z-PC Fusion more. It's slightly abrasive, so it really cleans the scratches and doesn't just cover them up.

Why did you choose Griot's over Porter Cable?

Thanks BMW#6, I might give that a try if superhung doesn't come through with something first.

Griot's developed the Porter Cable, before they sold it to Black & Decker. Griot's has a better, stronger motor and more speed variations. It's solid.

... I really feel sorry for you man. Those scratches you won't be able to get out by hand. You'll get some of them out for sure, but it's just an easier bet if you run through it with the right compound and PC (maybe) If you really want to give it a shot yourself, try this product : Menzerna Intensive Polish. I've used it before and it works really well. By hand, you can only do so much. Since you can't use rotary, my second option is to take it to a detailer. There's a place in Gardena/Torrance area that's called 'Sixteen Customs'. It's run by a honest Japanese guy that does very good work. You can take the car down to him and he'll be able to determine if it can be buffed out or if you'd need a re-paint. His paint jobs are really good too

From looking at the picture, it looks like its nothing, it'll come right out with some mild abrasive, but you're better off getting it professionally done with the right tools. You can only do so much by hands, bring it in to a detailer's shop, I'm sure it won't cost that much just to get that spot out, but remember to wax it once they remove those scratches. Cheers.
