I've replace fluid a few times over the winter, and never notice how much sand is in my engine bay. Has anyone steam cleaned or rinsed down the engine bay. I need it REALLY bad. I'm going to take a pic in the morning.

YA!!! theres SOoooooooooooo much sand that gets picked up... what is this a vacuum cleaner? I wipe and vacuum up all the sand each time I wash the car so its not that bad... I swear I can make a sand castle by now.

I clean and detail my engine bay by hand... I don't trust techniques like steam-cleaning or hosing down with degreaser with the increasing amount of electronics everywhere.

BMW says NO steam cleaning. Over the years I've used simple green and a hose though...putting saran wrap over sensitive areas first and have never had a problem.

Someone came up with WD-40 in a previous thread. I'll be trying that when I eventually get around to doing more than wiping with a towel. I used a washer on the 540i and had a tough time getting it to run normal. Won't do that again.

Just did it the other day. I used a citrus based all purpose cleaner on built up grease & dirt areas then lightly sprayed the engine bay with a high pressure hose(not a pressure washer) using hot water, then using a small detail brush i scrubbed the grime & then followed again with the hose. Atferwards I started the engine let it run while i air chunked the excess water & toweled it down. I avoid using anytype of shine up after detailing the engine as this attracts even more dust & dirt. Just be frugal with the hose & dont get spray happy... LOL
