My detailer says to stay away from the california duster as it scratches the paint. i use it on the occasion and before putting my car cover on. Don't believe it has scratched my paint. Thoughts?

i use one from time to time. if it does scratch i dont see them. the alternative is to either wash the car daily or put a cover on it every day even at work. I caint stand to see my car dusty and dont have the time to wash it daily. i say dust it

I use mine on a regular basis, probably three times a week if it's dry out. I haven't noticed any discernable scratching or swirling. I do wash and wax my car regularly as part of my regimen. In a perfect world, I am sure not using a duster would be ideal as it probably does cause SOME microscopic stratches, but I have to compromise as I do not have time for a full suds wash every time.

Ya in an ideal world its probably best not to use it... but thats too hard to do unless you work from home or something. Like said it probably does cause microscopic scratches but what can you do.

I've changed from using a california duster to using a microfiber cloth and detail spray instead...

Anyone have any thoughts on that over using a California duster?

I've had no problems with it. I'm obviously taking off a light coat of dust, not scrubbing off dirt with it. Even with washing, over time small swirls and scratches will appear - but that's what Zaino (or your product of choice is for). Go ahead and use the California duster!

Depends on the color of your car too, I would think......dark colors like mine will show swirl marks easier than a light color car. I've been using a Cali Duster for a month or so now, and haven't noticed any scratches/ swirl marks. I've been kind of leary of using it because with my last car, which was dark blue I used a CA Duster for 10+ years on it, and it had swirl marks all over it.....don't know if they got there by the duster, or because of 12 yr old paint...but they were there, even with polishing/ waxing every 4-5 months.

I personally do not recommend dusting at all. I saw live examples of other buddies cars. Usually you get swirls that can be noticed under direct sunlight.

more dusting = more polishing, as simple as that. I use a closed garage and don't dust my car, and till now I didnt polish my car for the last one and a half years although I'm living in a Sandy city !

Not sure how using a california duster would result in "swirls" it is more of a straight line movement. Front to back, back to front. I've used mine for quite some time and do not noticed any scratches. I also supplement that with using an auto detail spray like Mequires or Zaino. Mequires quik spray is pretty poor I think, I seem to have to use so much more and it doesn't leave as nice of a shine. The zaino works very well.

I guess if you don't dust in the same direction each time
