I know this will get moved to the Detailing forum, but here goes. Anybody have a suggestion for cleaning the style 172 wheels? The narrow space on the spokes is worse than the style 135 wheels on my old car.

Yes they are hard to clean. I cut a small square of sponge and use that - takes ages to clean the wheels using this method though.

I have an Autoglym wheel brush which works well on 135M wheels but not so good on the 172M wheels (as you have said) due to the narrow spoke!

Regards,

Regards,
In this month's copy of BMW Car (UK mag) there is an article on a new wheel cleaner that uses ultrasonics. Its about the size of a large toothbrush. I'll see if I can find the mag and post details later.

Go out and by a brush the size of a baby's bottle brush and you'll be fine. I found something even better in that the brush section is a loop back into the handle. That design works absolutely brilliantly and you don't realise how often you need to use the top of the loop area when cleaning the wheels.

I can't find the actual one I bought but see http://www.bizrate.co.uk/gardentools/oid57...3__nwylf--.html for a picture of what I'm talking about.

I use Griot's Garage Long Reach Wheel Scrubber Brushes. They work great on my 172s.

Foam paint bushes are very effective at getting between the spokes on my old type 135s.

I also have a new technique for winter. Spray the wheels generously with a citrus-based cleaner just before you drive into a touchless car wash. Better yet, soak them twice, once before you drive to the car wash, and once before you go into the car wash.

The touchless car wash will remove far more brake dust than it would have otherwise. You'll only need a quick detailing with a damp rag to get the spots the car wash missed.

I use a special wheel sponge by Sonax; long and thin it's just what I need.
