Anyone ever clayed a car and could offer some do's and don'ts? Ive done some research but would like to know if anyone has first hand experience. Recommend any brands? Should you use a lubricant or soapy water?

Thanx

Whats up,
I have clayed my 2006 GMC yukon and it looks awsome and feels smooth as a babys bottom. You dont need any suddsy water, all you need is a good wax (rejex or meguiars) and some terry cloths. Just clay the car and then hit it with a good wax here is the clay bar that I use. If you have any more questions let me know.

Yes, you do need a lubricant when you clay. I use a spray bottle with a touch of car wash soap (Zaino Z-7) and water. You need to keep the clay bar and the surface well soaked so the clay glides over the surface. Otherwise you risk marring the paint.

Here's a good how-to.

soory about the confusion tachyon is right you do need a lubricant, and one comes with the kit by meguiars, a quick wax detailer, so that is what I use. That is what I meant when I said you dont need soap.

So is that "quick clay" as good as any other or are they all the same?

honestly when I don;t have special lubricants I jsut use soap its jsut as effective.. get the clay bar and some lub but like i said not nessasary.. then wash the car and rinse it one last time.. lub the bar and surface.. and start using the bar as its ur wash cloth.. and u can tell if u need more lub or not it will either be really easy to move it or its getting caught on everyhting..also keep an eye on the side of the bar your using because once u have enough contaminents it will need to start folding the clay so a fresh surface rises on the clay bar.. and after u do all that rinse the car again and dry.. then it needs wax!!!

Nice nice. Yea my car has some rough parts and overspray I have to get rid of. How many times a year you say you clay? I know over claying is bad but im just curious. I read somewhere when the claybar is done, you can clay your winshield but not the headlights? Anyone done it?

i do it everywhere. actully the headlights especially..cause when i detail really crappy cars with cloudy lights it takes that crap off so.. id say clay as often as u want.. but remember every time u clay u strip the wax off of it so u gotta wax it after.. for silver id say jsut do it when the tar spots get really noticable
